Spiderscribe.net as a Breakthrough for Organizing Students’ Ideas in Writing

Abstract: The integrating of technology in English language teaching is considerably something demanding in this digital era. It is so crucial for educational development that it is no longer considered as secondary or complementary need anymore. Moreover, the benefits of it are undeniable. Therefore, as stated in Kurikulum Nasional regarding the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in English language classroom, particularly in writing class, students are expected to be able to make use of digital programs or softwares to push their critical thinking in expressing their arguments, ideas, feeling, and thoughts. In this matter, web-based technology can be used as an alternative source to make the teaching of writing more interactive. Spiderscribe.net, as proposed in this paper, is a web-based technology that can be utilized as an online mind mapping and brainstorming tool for students’ writing. It can be used in pre-writing and whilst-writing activities. It enables the students in every level to easily develop their ideas to be a well-organized text by connecting notes, pictures and files in a free-form map. These lead to the aim of this paper to discuss the spiderscribe.net itself, the rationales of utilizing it in teaching writing particularly analytical exposition text, and the procedure of its implementation.
